This is a "basket" that I made as an assignment for one of my classes. With expermentation being one of the criteria I took that as permission to go way outside the traditional in pine needle basket weaving.
A co-worker commented that my baskets aren't really "baskets". That is, in the sense of a functional form. He's right. They are more to be looked at, and hopefully admired. I think that part of my "artist statement" will contain something like........
"using the materials, pine needles and raffia, and a lot of the traditional techniques of pine needle basket weaving.....".
It's a start.
